Today the asbestos research funding petition received its 2000th signature. Thank you to everyone who has signed. But realistically we need far more if the government is to be swayed in any way by the petition. I would ask everyone to make a conscious effort to get signatures from anybody they can for the petition. The petition is asking government to provide funding for research into asbestos diseases such as mesothelioma, and the fact is the money is available. The government as I have said before, according to their own commissioned report will save £52 million because of the Mesothelioma Act. This money should be used for research. We can and should be helping future victims of mesothelioma in this country and overseas by developing new treatments. Let’s do it. There are no excuses not to.
